Professional Background
Blake Gibson is an attorney and business leader with decades of experience at the intersection of law, technology, and business operations. Immediately before launching Gibson Counsel, Blake served as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of a large international software company (1,300+ employees) that provided enterprise-critical software to many of the world's largest financial institutions.
Legal Experience
Blake's legal practice focuses on the needs of technology-driven businesses, with particular depth in AI, software transactions, and trademark matters. His career includes creating and leading legal teams, directing multi-billion dollar M&A transactions from sourcing to integration, serving as first-chair counsel in over 130 trials and dispositive hearings, and negotiating billions in technology transactions. Blake has provided comprehensive legal counsel across corporate governance, product development, operations, technology transactions, offshoring, information security and privacy, marketing, go-to-market strategies, open source, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and all facets of technology commercialization and compliance.
Business Experience
Blake's perspective extends beyond traditional legal practice. He has served in C-Suite business roles including Head of Product and Chief Operating Officer, leading large 100+ person teams (including a team of several dozen AI scientists) across product development, professional services, operations, and AI initiatives. Prior to practicing law, Blake worked as a software engineer and owned an IT services company.
Approach
Blake's unique background as both attorney and former developer, head of product, and COO enables him to deliver tech-forward, practical legal solutions that help clients navigate today's technology-driven business environment. Blake approaches legal matters with an owner-operator mindset. He understands workflows, process efficiency, and how legal decisions impact broader business objectives. You won't receive advice that's technically correct but operationally impractical.
AI Leadership
Blake has been deeply engaged in AI legal issues since 2018, helping shape industry standards for AI use, contract provisions, and governance frameworks. Blake has also taught AI to over 1,000 professionals. This positions Gibson Counsel to provide forward-looking guidance as AI continues transforming how businesses operate.
